DAYTON CHRISTIAN TO OPEN SCHOOL’S $3.7M GYMNASIUM
$3.7M structure is result of multi-year capital campaign.
Dayton Christian MIAMI TWP. —
School plans today to unveil its first gymnasium.
The $3.7 million, 20,000-squarefoot Warrior Center at the school’s 44-acre Miami Twp. campus is the result of a capital campaign more than two years in the making.
Originally, the 56-year-old school announced plans to build a 31,000-square-foot gym as part of a $6 million goal, but revised the plan.
The gym’s completion is an achievement Dayton Christian officials have worked toward since moving from Dayton in 2004 to land it purchased at Washington Church Road and Spring Valley Pike, a former NCR facility.
“Our school has dreamt of a gym since it first moved to this site 15 years ago,” John Gredy, head of the school, said in a statement released Tuesday. “For that reason, the Warrior Center represents much more than bricks and mortar in which to host games. It is a symbol of our school’s unity in mission, and a place in which
future generations can gather to carry it on.”
The revised plan allowed the new facility to be built toward the site’s southern end, just north of the baseball field, according to plans approved by the township.
Aside from the gym, additional amenities include locker rooms, permanent bleachers, bathrooms and a Warrior Hall of Fame lobby and walkway, school officials have said.
The gym, designed by Ruetschle Architects and built by Wenco Construc- tion, will host its inaugural game Saturday.
The varsity women’s volleyball team hosts on Northridge. Dayton Christian officials said a por- tion of ticket and concession sales are being donated to Northridge, which was impacted by the Memorial Day tornadoes.
A ceremonial ribbon cutting will be held Friday at 2 p.m., according to the school.
Dayton Christian School has more than 800 students in grades pre-K to 12th grade.
The school created and received approval for a campus master plan in 2013. In the past three years, officials have said the school has made major athletic improvements to its campus including a baseball field, tennis courts, softball field and beginning work on a three- mile, wooded cross-country trail.
