The killer’s footsteps

Dayton police on Tuesday released more details about the shooter’s movements, which were picked up on security cameras before and during the mass shooting two weeks ago.

1 11:04 p.m.: Connor Betts, his sister Megan Betts and friend Chace Beard arrive in parking lot near Th ai 9 and J ay’s S ea f ood restaurant­s.

2 11:13 p.m.: The trio enters Blind Bob’s on Fifth Street. Connor Betts is wearing shorts and a black t-shirt. At 12:13 a.m. Connor Betts stops at the entrance to talk to a security guard before leaving the building. His sister and Beard remain in the bar another 47 minutes before they exit around 1 a.m.

3 12:14-12:42 a.m.: Connor Betts enters Ned Peppers

4 12:42-12:46 a.m.: Connor Betts leaves Ned Peppers and walks in front of officers in a parking lot next to the Hole in the Wall bar as he crosses Fifth St reet.

5 12:46-12:54 a.m.: The 24-year-old Bellbrook man returns to his vehicle and puts on a bulletproo­f vest and grabs an AR-15 style .223 caliber weapon equipped with a high-capacity magazine from the trunk.

6 12:55-1:04 a.m.: Shooter hides out of camera view behind Newcom’s Tavern. During this time, police said Connor Betts communicat­ed through cell phone with his sister and Beard, who told the shooter they were going to a taco stand on Fifth Street.

7 1:05 a.m.: Connor Betts makes his way down the alley beside Blind Bob’s patio firing his gun.

8 Megan Betts, Chace Beard and two men are shot standing near Aztec Taco Stand that was parked near Blind Bob’s. Witnesses said Megan Betts and the two men died on the street. Beard was shot in the hip and is recovering from his injuries.

9 Connor Betts, wearing a mask and ear protection, crosses Fifth Street and repeatedly fires the gun. He went on to kill six other people as he crosses the street toward the entrance to Ned Peppers. Betts shoots at least 41 times in less than 30 seconds. Another 17 people receive gunshot wounds.

10 Dayton police officers patrolling the Oregon District hear gunfire and observe a large crowd running. Seven officers immediatel­y moved toward the gunfire and engage Connor Betts, shooting more than 70 times. One officer flanks Betts and fires toward him from behind as other officers shoot at Betts as he runs toward them.

11 Less than 32 seconds after firing his first shot, Connor Betts is shot several times by police and drops before entering Ned Peppers. A bouncer takes Betts’ weapon away and police quickly handcuff the killer.
