Alternate Endings: Six New Ways to Die in America, 8 PM on HBO: This 2019 documentar­y from Emmy winner Matthew O’Neill and Perri Peltz explore changing attitudes, rituals and mechanics of death on the part of most Americans, who in 2018 for the first time favored cremation over traditiona­l funerals and burials. Topics include the option for terminally ill patients to use medical assistance to shorten final suffering, ways to honor loved ones as they are going through their final days and unique celebratio­ns of the life of departed loved ones.

I Was Prey, 10 PM on ANPL; 2 AM on ANPL: Humans are lucky enough to spend most of their lives atop the animal world food chain, but Season 3 of this hit series offers fresh reminders of what can happen when humans venture onto a turf that’s shared by a dangerous critter. In the season premiere, “Grisly Encounters,” Jordan Carbery is investigat­ing a noise outside his cabin when he encounters a massive grizzly bear. In another segment, during a river tour with her husband, Zanele Fox is thrown from her raft and ravaged by a crocodile.

David Makes Man, 10 PM on OWN; 1:04 AM on OWN: Created by Oscar-winning screenwrit­er Terell Alvin McCraney (“Moonlight”), this new semi-autobiogra­phical drama series revolves around a 14-year-old boy (Akili McDowell) from the South Florida projects who’s haunted by the death of his closest friend. He also feels responsibl­e for finding a way to help his exhausted mother (Alana Arenas) climb out of poverty, a quest that forces him to decide between working the streets where he grew up or aspiring to a higher education that could deliver freedom. Phylicia Rashad also stars.
