Council is close to appointing a new council member to represent Ward 3.

The council is expected to appoint Jack Hanson, a planning commissioner for the city and former Springboro teacher.

“I look forward to leading and helping in its management,” Hanson said in a letter of application emailed on Aug. 6.

“I can and will provide the citizens of Springboro with easy access to the mechanism of an effective government as I have done so for the past two years by serving on the Springboro City Planning Commission.”

Hanson, who was also the high school hockey coach, would replace Carol Dorsey, who resigned, effective July 31, because she is moving out of the city after her marriage.

Hanson, the only applicant to replace Dorsey, also applied when she was appointed to replace her husband, Bruce Moore, after his death in 2016.

“We have no issues not to appoint him,” Mayor John Agenbroad said before Thursday’s meeting.

Hanson was one of nine who applied to replace Moore. Agenbroad pointed to his service in the U.S. Air Force and role in the

city’s annual Oktoberfest.

Agenbroad said the council planned to appoint Hanson at its September meeting.

Hanson could not be reached for comment.

Ward 3 is east of Ohio 741 (Main Street in Springboro) and south of Lytle-Five Points Road.

On Thursday night, the council was to meet in executive session to meet with Hanson about the appointment.

Dorsey replaced husband Bruce Moore in October 2016.

She was elected in 2017, running unopposed.

“I further pledge that if you give me this opportunity to prove myself, that I will seek re-election in next year’s ward seat election. This is not a stopover for me, it is a lifelong commitment,” she said in her letter of application.
