Memorial Day tornadoes change 2 voting precincts

Harrison and Butler township voters have new sites for Nov. 5.

The Memorial Day tornado outbreak has forced the relocation of two polling locations in Montgomery County for the upcoming election.

Voters who went to the New Life Worship Center in Butler Twp. and the North Wesleyan Center in Harrison Twp. will have to vote in different locations come Nov. 5.

Those who had voted at the New Life Worship Center will now vote at the Hopeland Church at 6025 Miller Lane in November.

Those who previously voted at the North Wesleyan Center in Harrison Twp. will vote at the Teamsters Hall 957 at 2719 Armstrong Lane.

Jan Kelly, the director of the Montgomery County Board of Elections, said those who were displaced by the tornadoes do not need to register to vote again if they plan to return to the address they originally registered to vote.

“Don’t vote from your

temporary residence, like a hotel or a friend’s house,” Kelly said. “Vote from the precinct you’re registered in.”

If a voter plans to move or permanently relocate, then they should change their voter registration.

“I’m sure with everything going on, whether or not they are registered to vote at the correct address is the last thing on people’s minds,” Kelly said of people in the county displaced by the tornadoes.

Kelly said the board of elections will send out a notice of the precinct changes via mail and has posted the changes to the Montgomery County Board of Elections website. The board of elections will send those notices out after the voter registration deadline on Oct. 7.

October 7 is not only the voter registration deadline, Kelly said.

That same day, the Montgomery County Board of Elections will host an open house to show the public its new voting machines from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Montgomery County Administration building, at 451 W. Third St.
