Piqua man accused of passing fake $100
A man accused of passing a fake $100 bill during a transaction of buying a used tablet from another man was arrested Sunday, Piqua police said.
According to investigators, the man who sold the tablet met with another man, David Glidewell, on Sunday night in front of Little Caesar’s Pizza on West Water Street. During the meeting, Glidewell gave the defendant a $100 bill as change for the tablet that cost $50, police said.
The police report indicated that Glidewell got back into his truck with $50 from the defendant and the tablet and left. At that time, the defendant realized that the $100 bill that Glidewell gave him was fake.
The police report indicated that the $100 bill had a strange texture to it and also had oriental lettering on the back. Police said they checked the bill with a counterfeit money pen and confirmed that it was not real.
During the course of the investigation, officers went to Glidewell’s address in Piqua and confronted him about the fake bill. He initially told officers that he did not know what they were talking about, but later told them he got the bill from another man whom he did not know.
After speaking with Glidewell, officers said he went into his house and retrieved the tablet, along with the $50 that the defendant gave him so it could be returned to the seller.
Glidewell was charged with counterfeiting, which is a fourth-degree felony and was summoned into court on Feb. 5.
According to the police report, the whole transaction started on Facebook Marketplace.
