Public feedback is being sought involving the hiring of the next superintendent for the Miamisburg City School District.

A questionnaire has been posted to the district’s website and a community forum set for Feb. 18.

The district’s board of education has started the process of finding a successor to David Vail.

Vail, who has been an educator for nearly 40 years, the past seven-plus as head of that school district, last month submitted a retirement letter to the board. He will end his tenure at the end of July, school board President Dale Toadvine said.

The district – which includes which also includes most of Miami Twp. and parts of German Twp. – plans to hire a new superintendent for the 2020-2021 school year.

The forum seeks “input from the community on the characteristics, skills, and experience” the board should consider in evaluating candidates for the district’s next superintendent, according to the district.

The three-page questionnaire – available at www. miamisburgcityschools.org - covers four topics:

■ The two or three most significant strengths of the district;

■ The two or three most important issues facing the district;

■ Two or three characteristics the board should look for in a new superintendent;

■ Ranking the district’s 10 most important needs.

District officials are asking those who attend the forum to bring copies of their questionnaire responses. The forum - set for 6:30 p.m. in the Commons at Miamisburg High School Commons, 1860 Belvo Road - will include staff from K-12 Business Consulting, Inc., the firm hired by the district.

The session is designed to last about one hour, according to the district.

Those who cannot meet with the consultants are asked to return the completed forms by emailing, mailing to the address provided, or faxing the form to the number identified on the second page of the questionnaire by Feb. 21.
