New breakfast-and-lunch restaurant to open in Troy

A breakfast, lunch and brunch restaurant is gearing up to open this spring in the former Sherwood Shopping Centre in Troy, and its co-founder has some impressive restaurant lineage.

The founders on Tuesday announced the name of the restaurant: redBERRY, a tribute to its home city and the Troy Strawberry Festival. The new restaurant will serve a “classic breakfast and lunch menu” from its location on the south corner of the retail center located in the 900 block of North Market Street in Troy, according to a release.

The new restaurant will seat more than 100 diners, inside and on its all-season patio, and it’s scheduled to open sometime this spring, its founders said.

The redBERRY concept was developed by local entreprene­ur Mykie Thompson and by the former shopping center’s investors, who have renamed the developmen­t simply “Sherwood.”

“Mykie was looking for an opportunit­y to manage her own restaurant, and the investors were looking for something new and exciting for Sherwood,” a spokespers­on for redBERRY said in a release. “The team recognized quickly that one underdevel­oped niche in Troy was the breakfast restaurant. No one wanted a chain restaurant or a place that served the kind of meal you could just as easily make at home; instead, they imagined something that was truly unique for the community.”

Thompson was born and raised in a restaurant family: her parents, Michael and Telisa Delligatta oversee Michael Anthony’s at the Inn at the Inn at Versailles in Darke County.

The redBERRY menu will include items such as egg skillets, biscuits and gravy, and

French toast, as well as soups, fresh salads and sandwiches.

Thompson said redBERRY “is going to be a very relaxed and comfortabl­e restaurant. We imagine it as a place where friends and families can come together to connect over a really good meal . ... Our goal is simply to serve classic food prepared better than any other restaurant in the area.”

The future restaurant space is in the process of being transforme­d “in a big way, so I think people will be really surprised and pleased when they finally get to see it,” Thompson said.

Plans call for redBERRY to be open six days week for breakfast and lunch, closed Mondays. A brunch menu will be served on Sunday. The restaurant will have a liquor license, and will offer a selection of beverages, including mimosas and Bloody Marys.
