County commissioners shared follow-up information Tuesday on two tornadoes that hit Miami County during the past year — Jan. 11 in Troy and Memorial Day in Union Twp.

A map showing the location of nearly 100 properties where damage was reported during the Jan. 11 tornado was shared with commissioners by Joel Smith, county Emergency Management Agency director. That map shows 77 residential properties with damage and 19 commercial properties. The extent of damage is depicted by various colors.

The tornado struck around 10:15 p.m. without warning, damaging some homes in the city’s historic district before moving through the public square and across the Great Miami River, damaging homes near Troy High School and on through the northeast section of the city east of North Market Street. Other tornado damage was reported in the Fletcher area in northeast Miami County.

The commissioners also discussed the Memorial Day tornadoes that hit the region, including Union Twp. The commissioners voted to approve paying $18,000 from contingency money to the township to help with expenses.

Dan Suerdieck of the county planning and zoning department said Union Twp. residents needing assistance should register for a case manager at the county 211 hotline at 937-225-3000 and 1-855-405-7629.
