The Xenia Area Community Theater and the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center Present “The Face of Emmett Till.”
Purchase your tickets now for Ohio’s Premiere showing of “The Face of Emmett Till,” presented as a collaboration between the Xenia Area Community Theater (X*ACT), and the National Afro-American Museum and Cultural Center, Wilberforce.
The play, written by Mamie Till Mobley and David Barr III, and directed by Joyce Barnes, examines how the 1955 tragic death of a 14-year-old black boy named Emmett Louis Till raised awareness of racial injustices in the south and ignited the Civil Rights Movement.
Audiences will witness the historical account of how Emmett was caught in the claws of lies and hatred in Money, Mississippi, and how his mother, Mamie Till demonstrated courage, faith and resilience, while opening the nation’s eyes to her son’s tragedy.
The play will be presented at X*ACT, located at 45 E. 2nd Street, Xenia, on Feb. 14, 15, 21, 22 at 7:30 p.m., and on Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. A contextual pop-up exhibit curated by the museum will be on display through the run of the play, and the opening night Gala will feature a musical selection by Marceia Cornwell. Ticketholders will also receive a special program insert, an essay written exclusively for this production by playwright David Barr III.
Tickets: $20 Gala Night (Feb. 14); $17 General Admission; $15.30 Members; $14 Seniors/Students/Military; $7 Children 12 and younger. Tickets are available online at www.xeniaact.org. STAFF REPORT
