Miami Valley Intern Academy grant available

-

Southwestern Ohio Council for Higher Education announced their new initiative to provide high school students the opportunity to explore career paths through meaningful internships. The new Miami Valley Intern Academy is made possible by a generous three-year grant from the Engineering & Science Foundation of Dayton.

The grant enables the kickstart of Miami Valley Intern Academy by providing 50% of the funding for every high school intern. Each employer will cover the additional 50% out of their annual operating budget. The funding will directly provide an experiential learning opportunity to approximately 100 diverse 11th and 12th graders in-demand industries while contributing to the students’ financial security.

“The Miami Valley Intern Academy goals are to breakdown the misconceived barriers that industry has about students in the work environment and to provide students first-hand experience to explore career paths,” says SOCHE President, Cassie Barlow.

The Miami Valley Intern Academy, in collaboration with employers, will serve students in the Miami Valley region as well as industry partners as Miami Valley Intern Academy will provide another strategy to develop their workforce pipeline.

Industry leaders who are interested in positively impacting a student’s career path by hosting a high school intern should contact Patty Buddelmeyer at Patty. Buddelmeyer@soche.org or call SOCHE at 937-258 -8890.
