Resources to keep our economy moving

-

We have found a new norm in not only washing our hands, but also online shopping, working from home, and how we enjoy favorite restaurants. I’m pleased that we have a Buy Local resource on our webpage to make it easier for our residents to find what places are open and any special hours of operation.

If you haven’t found it yet, please visit https:// www.hhoh.org/523/BuyLocal, where you’ll find a wealth of information about the Huber Heights business community and even some special deals taking place. Let’s keep the Huber Heights economy moving forward and growing strong.

■ April 1 was the official kick-off the 2020 Census. That date is important because we all use it to count those living in your home. It’s not only important to be counted from the “how many people live in the U.S. standpoint,” but also to help determine how hundreds of billions in federal funding flow into communities every year for the next decade. That funding shapes many different aspects of every community.

Think of your morning commute: Census results influence highway planning and construction, as well as grants for buses, subways and other public transit systems.

Or think of our local schools: Census results help determine how money is allocated for the Head Start program and for grants that support teachers and special education.

The list goes on, including programs to support rural areas, to restore wildlife, to prevent child abuse, to prepare for natural disasters, and to provide housing assistance for older adults.

Have you taken a moment to complete your 2020 Census yet? If not, there are three ways: by mailing in the form you received in March, by completing it online at https://my2020census.gov/, or by calling (English) 1-844-330-2020 or (Spanish) 1-844-4682020.
