A new $27 million Dayton hospital is now open on South Main Street, treating patients rehabilitating from illness and injury.

The Rehabilitation Institute of Ohio is a joint business venture between Dayton-based Premier Health and Encompass Health at 835 S. Main St., across from the Miami Valley Hospital campus. Work kicked off in November 2018 on the hospital.

The new hospital includes the former Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Dayton, which had been in the Elizabeth Place medical campus along Edwin C Moses Boulevard.

Premier Health said in a statement that the freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital has 60 private patient rooms, a therapy gym, an in-house pharmacy, courtyard, dialysis suite, three bariatric rooms, an isolation room and dining room.

The hospital staff will care for patients overcoming debilitating illnesses and injuries including strokes and other neurological disorders, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, amputations and complex orthopedic conditions. The services include physical, occupational and speech therapies and 24-hour nursing care.

“As the region’s only Level I trauma center, Miami Valley Hospital must maintain a significant number of inpatient rehabilitation beds to serve trauma patients and others from across the region,” Mary Boosalis, president and CEO of Premier Health, said in a statement. “This joint venture will help us serve that community need while delivering great value and care for our patients.”
