Movie: Annihilation, 7 PM on FXX; 9:30 PM on FXX: Natalie Portman and Jennifer Jason Leigh head a strong cast in writerdirector Alex Garland’s complex, 2018 sci-fi-horror thriller about an expedition of scientists dispatched to investigate something called The Shimmer, a restricted zone in which plant and animal life has begun to mutate near the site of a meteor crash.
Only one of them, Lena (Portman), returns. Gina Rodriguez, Tessa Thompson and Oscar Isaac also star in the film, which underperformed at the box office but drew rave reviews for its blend of thrills and provocative moral themes.
Movie: Little, 8 PM on MAX: At age 14, Marsai Martin (“black-ish”) became the youngest executive producer ever to hold that title on a Hollywood production with director and co-writer Tina Gordon’s 2019 comedy fantasy, which Martin first pitched in 2014 after seeing the classic comedy “Big.” Regina Hall (“Girls Trip”) stars as Jordan Sanders, a ruthless tech mogul who bullies everyone around her until a child’s wish turns her into a 13-year-old (Martin) to take her down a peg or two. Issa Rae, Justin Hartley, Tone Bell, Rachel Dratch and Mikey Day also star.
Food Paradise, 10 PM on COOK; 2 AM on COOK: Among the mouthwatering featured foods in the new episode “Tasty Taverns,” a French-trained chef has a growing base of fans who happily line up for the high-quality Mexican fare he’s slinging, while at another eatery, big beer and bold burgers never fail to be a draw. The owners of a pizza parlor reveal the secret behind their success, while the kitchen in a busy New York tavern smothers its burgers and spikes its addictive shakes.
