A local metal plating and coating company is expanding and has agreed to hire 25 new employees over the next three years as part of a deal with the city of Dayton.

Techmetals has signed a development agreement with the city that will provide the company with about $150,000 in grant funds for a nearly $2.3 million expansion project at its 345 Springfield St. headquarters.

Techmetals has agreed to retain 200 existing jobs and add about 25 new employees, with an average salary of $42,500, said Joe Parlette, Dayton deputy city manager.

“It’s another great story coming

out of Techmetals,” he said.

On Wednesday, the Dayton City Commission approved a development agreement with Techmetals that will give the company $30,000 from the city’s development fund and $120,000 from the Montgomery County Economic Development/Government Equity Program (ED/GE grant).

Techmetals is expected to use the money for building improvements, machinery and other equipment at its campus in East Dayton, city documents state.

Ford Weber, Dayton’s economic development director, said in a memo to the city manager that the project will support the expansion of an essential business during the current emergency, referring to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The incentives are necessary to address gap funding and special conditions related to the urban location,” the city manager’s report says.

Founded in 1968, the company says it has grown into an industry leader, offering more than 85 finishing solutions serving companies in aerospace, the military, manufacturing and the automotive and medical fields.
