Bakery pleads for ‘love’ after vandals strike once again

- By Mark Fisher Staff Writer

Partial to Pie, the locally owned bakery founded by a father-daughter duo two years ago at 200 Shroyer Road at Wilmington Avenue, was vandalized again overnight or during the early morning hours of Wednesday and needs “some community love” to help overcome the rash of destructive incidents, its owners said Wednesday on the bakery’s Facebook page.

“Just when you think it’s over — this morning we came in to (find) yet another door busted out,” Partial to Pie’s owners wrote. “Please come out to support us this week, as this is the third time we will be replacing the front door. We really need some community love right now! Thanks for being such great customers.”

A rash of vandalism over a three-week period in May included three broken windows and two broken doors, and it forced the bakery to sell whole pies and other treats out of their back door for a few days while repairs were made.

Partial to Pie was founded by Marie Clark and her father Mike Clark, specializing in pies, quiche and sweet treats for dine-in and carry-out. The family renovated space that had been vacant for several years but previously housed AAA Stripping and Refinishing.

Prior to opening the bakery, the Clark family made sweet treats for the South Slavic Club of Dayton for events such as A World A’Fair, and later started making apple bread, pies and fritters for the Aullwood Apple Fest. Marie Clark earned a business/ entrepreneurship degree from Sinclair Community College, with the intent to launch a bakery with her father.

Partial to Pie’s owners wrote Wednesday that they “do not want to leave the community because of this one person, besides the fact that it would be much easier said than done.”

Only five months after it opened, Partial to Pie was named as the “Best Pie Shop in Ohio,” by USA Today and its editorial-content partner 24/7 Wall Street.
