CRASHES KILL 6 IN 24-HOUR STRETCH
7-month-old baby, child among those killed within 24 hour period.
A 7-month-old baby in Preble County and a child in Clark County were among six people who died in vehicle crashes in the Miami Valley within 24 hours Thursday and early Friday.
There were five deadly crashes reported in Greene, Clark and Preble counties.
The first fatal crash was reported around 1:30 p.m. Thursday on Zink Road in Fairborn after a motorcyclist crashed near
Eagle Highlands Drive.
Curtis Stout, 22, was identified as the victim. He was a member of the Air Force and served at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, according to the Greene County Coroner’s Office. His cause and manner of death have not been determined at this time.
Next, a child was killed in a two-vehicle crash at North Yellow Springs and West Columbia streets in Springfield around 6 p.m. About a half-hour later, another deadly crash was reported in the city. A man riding a motorcycle crashed at East John Street and Sunset Avenue. He was taken to Springfield Regional Medical Center, where he died, according to police.
Messages left with Springfield police seeking more information about the crashes and the victims were not returned Friday.
At around 6:40 p.m. Thursday evening, a 7-month-old and a woman were killed in a four-vehicle, chain-reaction crash in Preble County. The crash took place on Westbound I-70 near milepost 7.
Tonya Beachy, 25, and Ellie Beachy, 7 months old, were killed after a semi-truck crashed into the back of their Chevrolet Silverado, pushing the pickup truck into a semi-truck in front of them, Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers reported. The impact then pushed the second semi into a Chevrolet Suburban.
Tonya Beachy was pronounced
dead at the scene while the baby was taken to Dayton Children’s Hospital where she succumbed to her injuries, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A fifth deadly crash was reported early Friday in Xenia on the Bellbrook Avenue ramp to U.S. 35, according to Xenia Police.
One person was killed and another injured in a head-on, two-vehicle crash. A vehicle went left of center and hit the second vehicle. The driver of the first vehicle, who has not been identified, died at the scene. The driver of the second vehicle was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
