The victim is Robert Brown, 28, of Dayton, according to Montgomery County CoronerKentHarshbarger. His cause and manner of death have not been released.
The shootingwas initially reported around 7:20 a.m. Tuesday on South Ardmore Avenue.
“As crews arrived, they received updated information that possibly the shooting might’ve happened at another location,” Dayton Police Sgt. Creigee S. Coleman said. “We interviewed witnesses on the scene and foundout therewas a car that had possibly received some gunfire that was behind an address on Brooklyn Avenue.”
After talking to thewoman whose vehiclewas shot, officers learned an injured person might be inside a home on Bish Avenue.
The home’s door was locked, prompting Dayton police and fire crews to kick it in. Once inside, investigators foundthedeadman, and
called the homicide unit and Montgomery County Coroner’s Office to the scene.
Tonya Brown Bailey, who identified herself as Robert Brown’s mother, said her family has gone through a series of tragedies over the past couple of years involving family members being killed.
“Iwant justice formy son, Robert,” she said. “He didn’t deserve this.”
She said she spoke with Brown about 30 minutes before his death.
“It’s not fair to none of us,”
she said. “I just got off the phone with my son talking about a doctor’s appointment, saying he will behome and I get a call ... that he’s dead. I want justice.”
She said Brown leaves behind a child.
Police said they are still investigating why Brown was at the home.
“We don’t know the relationship he has with this house or the relationship he has with the witnesses,” Coleman said.
Officers were initially unable to search the home when they first entered because they had not gotten a warrant.
“Whenwe firstmadeentry we were just looking for any people who needed assistance,” Coleman said. “We didn’t search because that was against the rules.”
Asearchwarrant was later secured. At this time, Coleman said he was not sure if anyweapons or drugswere found inside. Initial reports indicated that officers found blood andmoneyona porch of the home.
Police continue to speak to witnesses, including the woman whose vehicle was shot. It isn’t clear where or when the vehiclewas struck.
Coleman urged neighbors or anyone with surveillance cameras in the area to contact police.
“We need the assistance of the neighborhood and the neighbors to come forward and let us know what happened so we can solve this crime,” he said. “We’re justwaiting for all the pieces to come together so we can have information to relay out to people so they can be looking for this certain person.”
