Free RTA passes

-

The Greater Dayton RTA is offering free monthly bus passes to anyone receiving unemployment insurance benefits. The program comes through a partnership between RTA and the Montgomery County Workforce Development Department.

Anyone who is receiving unemployment benefits can qualify for a free monthly pass using Tapp Pay, the RTA’s mobile fare system, a release from Montgomery County officials said.

“We’ve seen the unemployment numbers since the pandemic shutdowns started in March, and we know a lot of people are struggling right now,” said Judy Dodge, Montgomery County Commission President. “Many people looking for work visit the Job Services area of our Job Center. It’s a natural partnership to connect our customers with free transportation through the RTA.”

Anyone interested in the passes can contact Montgomery County’s Business Services at 937-2255627 or fill out the online form at https://bit.ly/FreeBusPass, and a staff member will follow-up to approve and load the pass on a smartphone. The pass will be accessible through the Transit app, available for Apple and Android devices, the release said. The passes will be available through Dec. 31, 2020. The closure is to allow for electrical infrastructure upgrades to the building. The project will require a complete electrical shutdown of City Hall. The City will resume normal operations Tuesday, Nov. 17.

911 emergency dispatch will not be affected by the building closure. Other City facilities including the One Stop Center, recreation centers, police and fire stations, and the Dayton Municipal Court will operate as usual.

During the shutdown, the City’s customer call center will be closed. However, residents may call 937-333-4800 for waste collection and street maintenance service requests or concerns.

Residents are encouraged to use the City’s customer service app (Dayton Delivers 2.0) to report non-emergency requests. The free app can be downloaded from app stores.

Customers making payments for water service may pay through paytondaytonwater.com, by mail, by the interactive voice response system at 937-333-3550, or at Family Dollar or CVS stores.

Appointments with City personnel at City Hall will be rescheduled. Income tax payments can be made by credit card only at daytonohio.gov/paytax. SUBMITTED
