In our cities: Checking in with Beavercreek

- By Bob Stone

See what’s happening, from the two important issues on the May ballot to how the city is seeking input on a road-widening project.

This May, you will see two very important issues on the ballot — a school levy and a city street levy. Both are vital for the continued well-being of our community.

Our community is a team that consists of the City of Beavercreek, Beavercreek Township, and the school district.

We all depend on one another’s success. We are one community.

The city street levy will provide operational funding to the city’s street and engineering divisions. This includes roads, street lighting, signs and traffic signals, pavement markings — the list goes on. It also provides services such as snow plowing, street sweeping, pavement repairs, landscaping, and is the primary funding source for dayto-day operations including 37 full-time public works employees. Without this levy, residents would see a significant reduction in these vital services.

As for the school levy, it will help continue to fund operations at our schools. This includes teachers, technology, utilities, and classroom supplies. If the city street levy fails, it could mean the reduction or elimination of more than

100 employees along with several services, including the art and music departments, along with AP, honors programs, and much more.

Our community simply cannot afford to see any members of its team suffer or be eliminated. With continued community support, we will see Beavercreek be the best it can be.

As your Mayor, I want to encourage you to do your own research about these levies and go vote on May 4.
