City seeks public input for Grange Hall Road widening

-

The city of Beavercreek is asking for public input regarding a widening project along Grange Hall Road.

The project will widen Grange Hall Road, between Summerfield Drive and Kemp Road, from two lanes to three lanes to provide a two way left turn lane, an eightfoot wide sidewalk on the west side, and a five-foot wide sidewalk on the east side.

The project will also include a curb, gutter, and storm sewer along the corridor. The project cost is approximately $4,200,000 and is funded 75 percent with Federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) funds with a 25 percent local match. Construction is currently scheduled to begin in 2023.

On average, 9,600 vehicles use Grange Hall Road per day. Between 2017 and 2019, 25 crashes happened within this project area, and more than half were rear-end crashes. The second most common crash type were fixed object crashes. These included objects such as a fire hydrant, mailbox, utility pole, etc.

The existing lanes on Grange Hall Road are 11-feet wide with a shoulder-width of 2-feet or less. There are many driveways and intersections, which cause turning vehicles to slow or stop when waiting for gaps. With no shoulders and narrow lanes, this avoids a driver’s ability to avoid rear-end crashes. There are also no sidewalks to bike paths, so pedestrians and cyclist must use the roadway, especially in areas where there are ditches. The pavement is also in poor condition in some areas.

To widen the roadway and provide sidewalks, some frontage property will be needed on both sides. This space is currently used for farming, front yards, and driveways. No residents or businesses would need to be relocated.

The proposed improvements listed above will help make Grange Hall Road safer for everyone.

A video presentation, which entails proposed improvements, how construction will affect traffic, the cost, and timeline is located on the City’s website under the “Grange Hall Road Widening Public Involvement Page.” There, one can also find an online comment form labeled “Online Grange Hall Road Comment Form.” The goal is to get residents’ feedback for potential design changes for the project’s final design.

If you have any additional questions, contact the city’s engineering division at (937) 427-5513.

The deadline to submit comments is May 7.
