Profile: Travis Beane welcomed as band director
Q. How does it feel to join Trotwood-Madison City Schools’ RAM Nation in such a visible role?
A.
It feels amazing to be welcomed into this wonderful school district and community! There is so much love and embrace extended to myself and my family so instantly. This reminds me of those old football movie scenes where a new coach comes to town and it brings excitement to everyone around. I’m literally standing on the shoulders of giants in this marching-band game and I’m ready to continue the legacy of such a great band program. Ram Nation is where the #Beane5 belongs.
Q. How will your experiences and your educational background enhance the TrotwoodMadison City Schools Band/Music program?
A.
Well let’s start with the TM4 Band! This band’s style is derived from M4, the Marching Musical Machine of the Midsouth, of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. UAPB happens to be my alma mater.
I am a 2010 graduate and a former member of M4, the Wind Symphony and Jazz Ensemble. The TM4 band is a perfect fit for me as a director because the students have the advantage of knowing my expectations before meeting me. I am looking to add my own style without negating the rich and award-winning traditions of the band.
I am excited about the integration of the Music Technology course. For the past 7 years, I taught music production at the
River Rouge School District in Michigan where we were able to provide students the opportunity to create, perform, market and distribute their own original music. I plan on doing that here as well! I also play bass and keyboards professionally and I plan on using that experience to guide the youth as well.
Q. What are the expected outcomes for students having the Beane musical experience?
A.
My plan is to have the students exceed the expectations! The students control their musical destiny. I am merely the guide to get them there. The goal is to give instruction, compete/ perform at a high level, and get these students from their parents’ house into someone’s university with a
full tuition band scholarship. Again, I am excited to be welcomed into the RAM Nation and ready to get to work!
