Huber Haunts shows power of citizen efforts

- By Mayor Jeff Gore

I hope that you are enjoying the fall season as much as I am so far.

Huber Haunts is back again this year, and each year we see more and more residents who want to register to get their house on the map. The love of Halloween decorating by our residents has been such a great thing for our community.

We receive messages from people all over the region asking how to get maps of the houses and questions regarding when it starts.

Huber Haunts is a great example of a citizen-led initiative that brings people together, rather than separate us. We need more of that and I couldn’t be happier that it’s HAUNT time again and I look forward to getting my map to visit everyone.

Make sure you like and follow: www.facebook.com/ groups/245511482829344, which is also where you will find your map.

The projects in the city also keep moving along. I am excited to continue to receive progress reports on the Veterans Memorial, and it looks like we will be on schedule for the dedication ceremony (Nov. 6) as well as the Veterans Day Ceremony (Nov. 11).

The construction on the pump track at Monita Field on Fishburg began earlier this month and should be ready by the end of October. Let’s hope for continued good weather so everyone will have some time to enjoy it before it turns cold and snowy.

The ramps for the skate park should also be here and installed, so even more outdoor fun will be ready to go as well. I’m sure all the kids, and kids at heart, are excited for these latest park updates.

Also, I want to remind everyone that all city council actions are posted on the city website at www.hhoh.org under the Government tab > Council > Council Actions. Here you will be able to quickly see and read all recommended actions from the work sessions and the subsequent action taken at the council meetings. My intent for this is to provide a place where you can to stay up to date on all legislative agenda items.

As always, I encourage everyone to attend out meetings in person or tune in to Board and Commission meetings,

City Council work sessions and meetings through the “Watch Live” feature at www.hhoh.org. By engaging this way, it not only helps you to stay up to date with what is happening in our wonderful city, but it can provide you an opportunity to provide feedback, voice your concerns, and gain valuable insight into decision making processes that impact the entire community.
