Curbside leaf collection set to start Nov. 1

- Contributed

The City of Huber Heights Public Works Division is planning to begin curbside leaf collection on Nov. 1, and anticipates making two complete passes through the city.

Any remaining leaves after that time will need to be taken to the Yard Waste Site located on Wildcat Road, or you may also bag the leaves and put them out to be picked up with your trash.

City crews will begin in section 1 and work numerically north through section 14. You may witness crews out picking up before the above date. This will be to test and tune the proper operation of equipment.

Residents choosing to have their leaves removed by the Public Works Division crews

must pile them in the area between the curb and sidewalk, (as close to the curb as possible). Leaves should not be placed in the street or where they could clog any drainage outlet. Care should be taken to remove all sticks and foreign materials because only leaves will be collected.

If your piles of leaves contain materials other than leaves, your property may be passed up and the leaves not collected. If cars are parked in front of your leaf piles, the leaves will be left until the next pick-up cycle in your area. The Public Works Division also requests that cars be parked off the street as much as possible during the leaf collection period. The pace the crews move through various sections is determined by weather conditions and or volume of leaves.

Please be patient, we will pick up your leaves.

The Public Works Division has a program to provide you with better, updated information about when crews will be in your section. A 24-hour answering service is provided that will update the progress of leaf crews each day. Please call to get the recorded message, which will inform you which section the leaf crews will be working in for that particular day. The recorded leaf hot line is 937-237-3603. You can also check for daily updates on the city’s Facebook page at https://www. facebook.com/hhohcity.

Residents wishing to dispose of their leaves at any time during the course of the leaf pick-up season are encouraged to take their leaves to the North Wildcat Road Yard Waste Drop-Off Site. To access the drop-off site, take Old Troy Pike north to left on Kellenburger Road to left on North Wildcat Road, through the open gates at the end of the road. Bagged or bulk leaves are accepted at the Wildcat Yard Waste Site, which will be open from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, for dropping off leaves only.

Please remember to empty your leaves from the bags and take your used bags home with you to discard properly or to reuse them again for more leaves. Additionally, you may also bag the leaves and put them out to be picked up with your trash.
