District operations at the heart of all schools

-

Education may be the heart of the mission, but operations is definitely the backbone. We are the foundation that enables everyone and everything to move and work seamlessly within a school district.

The operational design supports the districts leadership’s capacity to economically and logistically accomplish the overall educational goals.

Most parents and other invested parties are not familiar with school districts’ largescale operational support services: security, maintenance, facilities, transportation, nutrition services, and technology are all facets of

the Operations Department. In order to support the daily operations of a school district, these departments must collaborate with each other constantly to support work toward the “common goal.”

These essential operational elements often start their workday long before the school bell rings. Each day thousands of children are being safely transported to and from school. Healthy meals are being prepped and served. Buildings and grounds are being regularly maintained and secured. With the increasing use of technology and online learning opportunities, the technology department is in constant collaboration with the curriculum department to support students in their educational journey.

Although these services run smoothly, there is a lot of day-to day planning and decision making for operational activities and to meet districts’ strategic educational goals. All of this is completed while also ensuring that the district runs with legality and conformity to established federal, state and district policies.

Without the operations departments’ dedication to work, desire to find new ways of achieving and meeting goals, out of the box thinking, personal involvement, and everyday efforts that go above and beyond the job expectations, school districts around the county, state and country could not operate as we have all come to expect.

So, the next time you take a look at a school district, please be reminded that school districts are much more than books and classrooms. There are thousands of employees in Montgomery County alone who support the daily operations to provide a safe educational environment for our children.

If you would like to be part of the rewarding operations team at any of our Montgomery County Schools, we all have openings for multiple positions for various shifts ranging from as little as 2.5 hours to 8 hours. Come make a difference as a caring adult and be a positive influence on the students who hold our future.
