Q. Tell us about your education. A. I went to Dayton Christian and Cedarville University.

Q. Tell us about your family.

A. My husband, Brian, and I have two boys (Will, 17, Nate, 14) and a 2-year-old dog, Kemba.

Q. Where do you live?

A. Washington Twp. (Centerville)

Q. Where did you grow up? A. I grew up in East Dayton (Riverside).

Q. How long have you worked in Centerville City Schools?

A. This will be my 22nd year teaching as an intervention specialist. My first two years, I taught Intervention at McKinley Elementary in Middletown (grades 3-6). This will be my 20th year teaching Intervention in Centerville City Schools (John Hole Elementary grades 1-2 and currently Primary Village South grades Young Fives, K and 1).

Q. What’s your favorite thing about your job?

A. My favorite thing about my job is coming alongside the family and other stakeholders to work together to problem solve how we as a team can help their child to accelerate their growth (academically, socially, emotionally, etc.). It’s so rewarding when not only I, but the child sees that growth within a year. … That’s why I love teaching, seeing the kids gain confidence, independence, and pride in themselves as a learner and an important member in their home and school community.

Q. What one word best describes you?

A. Passionate. We’ve all heard the cheesy line,“If you love what you do, you’ll never work a day in your life.” Even though every day is a challenge, I love working toward a common goal of growth for our families and students. It is beyond rewarding.

Q. What’s your greatest

achievement as a teacher so far? A. Helping the kids determine a goal (academically, socially, emotionally, behaviorally) and then watching the kids beam with pride when they know they have achieved their goal. Then seeing their excitement and determination to tackle a new goal. Watching the kids learn that they can develop and achieve personal (just right) goals is beyond rewarding and infectious to their classroom, school and home community.

Q. Where do you see yourself in 10 years?

A. Continuing to collaborate with school teams and families to find the most effective ways to help each child learn at their fullest potential.

Q. What are your favorite

hobbies?

A. I enjoy drawing and painting realistic pictures of people and places, spending time outside in nature and going for long drives.

Q. What’s your favorite movie or

TV show?

A. I enjoy watching musicals.

Q. What’s your hidden talent?

A. I love to draw and paint realistic murals.

Q. Who would you most like to

meet?

A. I’m not really into celebrities and famous people. Some of the most influential people are those that I had never planned to meet. Relationships are everything … just being real and listening to others’ life journeys is beyond inspiring to me. So many“everyday people” are so extraordinary and leave such an impact on those around them (many of these people don’t even realize how infectious and inspiring they are). Grateful for my village (family, friends, church, school, neighbors, etc.).
