Christmas concerts
Two area community bands will welcome in the holiday season in coming weeks with three Christmas concerts.
The Centerville Community Band will lead things off with a 7 p.m. concert Dec. 7 at Epiphany Lutheran Church, 10551 Sheehan Road, Centerville. The church is located just south of the intersection of Sheehan and Social Row roads.
The concert will include music from two Christmas movies, not often heard unless people are watching “Elf ” or “Christmas the Movie.” Appearing with the band will be the Centerville Pops Chorus. Trumpet soloist Tom Jacobs will be featured in a “Christmas Song,” and Kristina Tollefson will sing “White Christmas.”
The band will perform a repeat of the concert at 7 p.m. the following Tuesday, Dec. 14, in the Eichelberger Pavilion at Carillon Historical Park, 1000 Carillon Blvd. in Dayton.
Both concerts are free, but visitors who want to enter the park exhibit area must pay an admission fee. Tom Pfrogner conducts the band.
The third concert will be presented by the University of Dayton New Horizons Music Program and will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, at Kettering Adventist Church, 3939 Stonebridge Road. The church is across from Kettering Medical Center.
Performing will be the concert bands, jazz bands the Rising Stars beginners’ band and the Dayton Celebration Chorus.
