Profiles Sharon Angel
Miamisburg’s school board will look different this year. Long-time board member Sharon Angel announced her intention to retire from board service in June 2019. Angel began her tenure on the school board in January 2006. She served on the board for 15 years. Angel was board president three times (2008, 2012, 2017) and vice president three times (2007, 2022, 2016). She was the school board legislative liaison for nine years.
Prior to her service on the school board, Angel was an MCS employee for 32 years. Angel began her career at Miamisburg City Schools in 1971. She began working as a library aide at Bear Elementary School. During her tenure she served many roles including: library aide, library supervisor, communications coordinator, curriculum supervisor, staff development/ media supervisor, and Kinder Elementary School principal. Angel retired from Miamisburg City Schools in 2003. She was honored for her service prior to the December board meeting.
At the Jan. 6 meeting Corey Dafler was sworn in for a four-year term.

Q. Corey, where did you grow up?
A. I was born in Miamisburg and graduated from Miamisburg High School in 2004.
Q. Tell us about your family: A. I am married to Lindsey, another Miamisburg graduate, and we have two sons. Brayden is a sixth-grader at Miamisburg Middle School and Bryce is in fifth grade at Bear Elementary School.
Q. What inspired you to become a board member?
A. I made the decision to run for the Miamisburg Board of Education to become involved in the Miamisburg community where I have lived my whole life and where I am raising my sons.
Q. Is there anything in particular you would like to accomplish while serving on the school board?
A. My main accomplishment while I am on board is to have a better understanding of the school system and be an asset to the board.
Q. What do you think is the biggest obstacle that school districts and board members face currently?
A. The biggest obstacles school districts and board members face currently would be dealing with the ongoing obstacles and the ever-changing climate of COVID. This has caused lots of stress on everyone’s lives. Working through all these challenges to restore normalcy and make sure we are giving the students the best opportunity to be successful.
Q. Do you have any hobbies? A. I enjoy doing CrossFit with my wife, coaching football and wrestling and watching my boys play sports. Brayden plays football, basketball and lacrosse. Bryce plays football, lacrosse and wrestles.
Q. What one word/phrase describes you best?
A. Hard working and committed.
