Valley View remains a district on the move

-

Like everyone, the past 2.5 years have been a struggle and a challenge. However, at Valley View, we are emerging from this period more resilient and eager to move forward.

Our strategic plan guides us as we move forward to ensure we are achieving the objectives that are ultimately tied to success.

Academics: We continue to push implementing STEM programming at a K-12 level. With the success of our junior high STEM program that is the recipient of local, state, and national recognition, it is a natural evolution to continue this throughout our district. We are also implementing our MultiTiered Systems of Support (MTSS) throughout the district.

This will assist us in ensuring we are providing the appropriate support for each individual student.

Student Development:

Our district is already implementing the financial literacy requirement to ensure our graduates are prepared for the world. We have been vigilant about ensuring we focus on the Whole Child, and have ensured we are meeting the social and emotional needs of our students by using ESSER funds to hire additional guidance counselors and mental health therapists available for any student.

Community Partnerships: This is our first year partnering with the YMCA for additional pre-school opportunities for students and families.

We hope to significantly increase the enrollment in that program in the coming years, because we know positive results come from early access to education.

Additionally we have been active at starting a mentorship program for our high school students to help prepare them for the changing workforce. We believe it is important for students to have exposure to different fields prior to committing to a technical pathway or college major.

Facilities: Thanks to the generosity and support of our community, we are underway with the planning phases of the new Valley View School. This K-12 facility will be adjacent to our current high school, and will provide a safe, accessible, and modern learning environment for our students that will better allow us to meet the educational needs of all our students.

Due to outstanding interest rates and prudent decisions by our board of education, this project will be more square footage for less money than what we would have originally received.

Additionally, because of favorable economic factors, we have decreased the lifespan of the bond payments by 5 years AND at a better interest rate than originally anticipated. This will represent direct savings to our taxpayers.

Finances: After making budget reductions in previous years, we are finally on solid financial ground. We anticipate finishing the best end of year cash balance our district has experienced in over 20 years. We are committed to being good stewards of taxpayer dollars in order to ensure we maintain this strong fiscal position.

Valley View continues to be a district on the move. While we are proud of our history and traditions, the future looks incredibly bright.
