OLYMPICS: The Internatio­nal Olympic Committee member who oversaw preparatio­ns for the Beijing Games was voted back onto the body’s executive board Saturday. Juan Antonio Samaranch, whose father was IOC president from 1980-2001, was the only candidate for the open vice president slot. The move puts Samaranch in position for an expected run at the presidency. Current IOC rules require Thomas Bach to stand aside in 2025 after 12 years as president.

PRO HOCKEY: Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn has been fined $5,000 for unsportsma­nlike conduct after squirting water from the bench into the face of an opponent. The fine was announced by the NHL on Saturday, a day after Benn squirted water at Blackhawks wing MacKenzie Entwistle as he skated past the Dallas bench late in the third period at Chicago.

MLS has engaged an outside law firm to review Portland’s handling of domestic abuse allegation­s involving former midfielder Andy Polo. The Timbers terminated Polo’s contract last week after his former partner accused him of abuse. Polo was initially suspended by both the team and the league.

Matteo Berrettini of Italy beat Brazil’s Thiago Monteiro 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3 on Friday to advance to the quarterfin­als of the rainplague­d Rio Open clay-court event. Berrettini’s adversary will be Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz, who beat Argentina’s Federico Delbonis 6-4, 7-6 (1) after several rain delays. Organizers postponed all quarterfin­als until Saturday.

Bernhard Langer shot his age Friday to take the first-round lead in the Chubb Classic in Naples, Fla. Langer, the 64-year-old German star, had five straight birdies on the back nine in a bogey-free 8-under 64.
