Oakwood picks new director of athletics, student activities
A new director of OAKWOOD — athletics and student activities has been named by Oakwood City Schools.
New Lebanon Local Schools Athletic Director and Dean of Students Tyler Rhodus has been picked to replace Laura Connor, who will become Oakwood schools’ assistant treasurer.
Rhodus, who is also Dixie High School’s baseball coach, will earn $102,000 per year starting Aug. 1, 2022 and ending July 31, 2025, according to his proposed contract.
The Oakwood board of education was scheduled to vote Monday night on his employment.
“An excellent administrator understands that their role in the school district is to mold young lives for the future of our society,” Rhodus wrote in his
job application. “An excellent administrator is able to accomplish their day-to-day responsibilities while also being able to build relationships with colleagues, students and the community.
“Excellent administrators do not see their role as position of power, but rather an opportunity to teach students through experiences how to be successful in the future.”
Rhodus has been an athletic director for five years, serving in that capacity for Franklin Monroe Local Schools for two years before being hired in New Lebanon, Oakwood records show.
He began coaching varsity baseball and girls soccer at Washington City Schools in Washington Court House from 2013-17, his application states.
Rhodus earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Cedarville University and anticipates being awarded a master’s degree in educational leadership this month from the American College of Education in Indianapolis.
Connor will be transitioning to her new role this summer, according to the school district.
