Driver guilty in crash that killed 3

-

A jury found 20-year-old Antonion K. Ward II of Trotwood guilty on all charges Thursday in a deadly July 2020 crash that killed a Dayton mother and two teens.

He will be sentenced May 31 in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

Ward was driving a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze on July 15, 2020, through a red light while headed south on Olive Road in Trotwood. The car hit a Mazda CX-9 driven by 35-year-old Leah Smith, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Both cars went off the road, overturned and hit multiple trees. The Cruze also caught fire.

Smith and two of Ward’s passengers — 18-year-olds Michael Stephens of Trotwood and Elgin Wilson IV of Dayton — were killed. Smith’s 3-year-old son suffered minor injuries, and Ward was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries, the report stated.
