Student wins Ohio Skills USA Automotive Service Technology Gold Medal
Jacob Hoes, a student in the automotive program in the Fairmont Career Tech Center, just keeps winning. At the conclusion of the 2022 Ohio SkillsUSA Automotive Service Technology competition, held on May 3 and 4, Jacob cemented his place as the top automotive service student in the state of Ohio when he was presented with the Gold Medal. Jacob will now advance to the national SkillsUSA competition that will be held in June in Atlanta.
Jacob, who interned with Grismer Tire & Auto, has been accepted into the Sinclair Tesla Start program, only the second high school senior of all time to be accepted into this prestigious program. Tesla START is an intensive training program that provides individuals across the U.S. with the skills necessary for a successful career at Tesla and beyond. During the program, individuals develop technical expertise and earn certifications through in-class theory, hands-on labs and self-paced learning.
Noted his automotive instructor, Scott Beirise, “Jacob is always engaged and interested in learning as much as possible about anything automotive. He learns the required work but also has volunteered to learn more about additional systems and designs. He has a thirst for new technology and has embraced it, but is knowledgeable about the older vehicles, as well. He is a leader in his class as well as a role model for the younger students, having served as my student assistant for the junior class this year. I am proud of him, and anyone that gets him as an employee is very lucky to have him. I believe he will go far in this career field, and I look forward to hearing about his successes in the future.”
