City more than ready for arrival of summer

- Neighbors:

This is my favorite time of year as I see Kettering residents out and about enjoying longer days as we head toward summer. The past couple of weekends gave all of us a lovely preview of the days ahead, and I think it’s safe to say we’re all ready for it.

If you follow our social media and other city communications, you may have seen our celebratory posts during National Volunteer Week expressing how grateful we are for the extraordinary talents our volunteers share in helping us add those special touches to services we offer.

One of the most valuable programs supported by our volunteers is in its 34th year of success! Kettering’s Neighborhood Pride Program was designed to honor residents who have made significant improvements to their homes or who have impeccably maintained their properties year after year. Not only does this program give friends, neighDear bors and city staff the opportunity to recognize the efforts of property owners, its bigger impact is the beautification of our city.

We invite you to nominate a neighbor, a business or any Kettering property you think is deserving of the Neighborhood Pride Award.

There are several ways to submit a nomination:

■ Submit a nomination online at https://www.ketteringoh.org/kettering-eighborhood-pride/

■ Complete and return the nomination form you will receive in the mail in your Contact With Kettering magazine

■ Email dawn.kirchner@ketteringoh.org or call 937-2962433 with the address of the property that caught your eye

Here are a few items to keep in mind when looking for properties to nominate:

■ Check the overall condition of the structure

■ Make sure fences and retaining walls are in good condition

■ Ensure the driveway is in good shape, free of cracks and holes

■ Make sure landscaping is pleasing and well cared for

All nominations are reviewed by a committee of dedicated volunteers. Last year, the committee reviewed over 400 nominations and awarded 39 property owners!

All award winners will be recognized at a City Council meeting, and an attractive sign is placed in the front yard of the award-winning properties.

The Neighborhood Pride Program is one more way volunteers work to keep Kettering the place people love to call home! Nominations will be accepted until August 1.

Thank you for being a part of this unique community. I hope you are as excited as I am for the upcoming events in Kettering.

Take care.
