High school team has record-setting showing
The Miamisburg High School Winds had a record-setting weekend at the 2022 WGI Winds World Championships culminating April 24. In the newest and growing WGI Winds division, 37 groups representing 20 different states attended this year, one even traveling from Hawaii.
Including the Percussion and Color Guard weekends, the WGI World Championships is a two-weekend event that brings thousands of performers to the area. During the prelim round, Miamisburg competed as one of 10 groups in the Winds Scholastic Open class.
Their production GLIssaDE scored a 94.45, capturing first place in class, and advancing them to Sunday’s Finals round. On Sunday, Winds remained in first place, improving their score to 95.375 and capturing the Scholastic Open Class Championship. This is the highest score ever reported by not only Miamisburg Winds, but any WGI Winds Open Class group.
