Garrett Harshaw to head foundation
Karla Garrett Harshaw has been named administrator of the Iddings Foundation. The foundation has provided grants generally to fund Montgomery nonprofits and community initiatives for nearly 50 years.
Prior to joining the Iddings Foundation, Garrett Harshaw served as director of develop- ment and communications for Advocates for Basic Legal Equality, Inc. and Legal Aid of Western Ohio, Inc., partner nonprofit law firms that provide free legal assistance to low-income individuals in 32 counties in western Ohio.
Earlier, Garrett Harshaw retired from Cox Media Group Ohio as Vice President of Community Development. She began her career with the Dayton Daily News in high school and is former editor of the Springfield News-Sun, a Cox newspaper. She was founding president of the Dayton Association of Black Journalists. She also was a loaned executive from Cox to Wilberforce University, where she transitioned into fundraising as a second profession. She was the 2015 president and remains a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Greater Dayton Region Chapter, and is a founding member of the Springfield Association of Fundraising Professionals.
Garrett Harshaw holds a Certified Fund Raising Executive certificate from CFRE International and earned a Certificate in Fund Raising Management from the Center on Philanthropy at Indiana University, The Fund Raising School. She holds a BS in Education and MS in Leadership Development from Wright State University.
