Charge for third trash bin gets tossed

-

Recently, a property owner contacted the Ombudsman for assistance with the trash removal bins at her property. The property has two removal bins, and yet she is being charged for three. The property owner reported that she had contacted the municipality several times but has not had success in getting the matter resolved.

The Ombudsman contacted the municipality regarding the bin charges. The municipality records contained information from last December that the property was going to be converted from two units to three. Because the regulations state that each residence must have its own trash removal bin, a third one was added to the property address. The municipality sent a staff person to the property to check the number of bins.

The response to the Ombudsman was that the staff person found two bins and two residences at the property. The property account was adjusted accordingly. The property owner was pleased to have the matter resolved and to be credited with the payments made for the extra bin.
