Great Performances, 1 AM on Ch. 16 and Ch. 48:
Shakespeare’s comedy “The Merry Wives of Windsor” — which revolves around the scene-stealing character of Sir John Falstaff from the Bard’s “Henry IV” plays — is presented in a 2021 Shakespeare in the Park production by New York’s Public Theater. Retitled simply “Merry Wives,” this new staging from Saheem Ali shifts the story from Elizabethan England to South Harlem, where West African immigrants live alongside their AfricanAmerican neighbors. Jacob Ming-Trent stars as Falstaff, while Susan Kelechi Watson (TV’s “This Is Us”) also is featured.
