JUDI BROOKS

-

Judi Brooks is the computer lab coordinator at West Carrollton High School. Like many school employees, her job duties go beyond what her job title implies. She not only assists students and staff with technology, she is also the first to volunteer whenever help is needed. She is often found working quietly behind the scenes to make events such as the homecoming parade, musical programs and Baccalaureate happen. This year, she was recognized by the school district as the Education Support Professional of the Year. The award recognizes the contribution that employees in education support roles make toward student success.

When the work day is over, Judi continues to give back. She started the Pirate Patch Garden in coordination with Katie’s Krops. Every season, the garden raises more than 1,000 pounds of vegetables, which are donated to St. Vincent de Paul. Judi volunteers her own time to show students how to grow a garden, from planting seeds to harvesting. Katie’s Krops annually recognizes the school district for the work done in the garden, but it is Judi who is the person behind the work. She spends countless hours in the garden, especially during the summer, to care for the plants.

Her other projects include a butterfly hatchery, a hydroponics garden, and cleaning out and planting flowers in the courtyard of the school for students and staff to enjoy. She recently was instrumental in providing locker decorations to spread positivity throughout West Carrollton High School.

She also spends time during the summer helping to clean out lockers. Any item left behind that is useable is kept by Judi for the next school year for any student in need. She has even been known to sew buttons on shirts if a student asks her to do it. These acts go way above and beyond her job description, and that is what makes Judi more than just an employee.

Helping students and her peers at the high school, plus all of her volunteer activities at the school, made Judi a standout candidate for the Education Support Professional of the Year award. It also makes her a role model for students as she continues to demonstrate how to give back to others and to the community.

Another thing about Judi is that she doesn’t care about the spotlight being on her. She would much rather it shine on the students!
