Engineers group donates $10K to high school
The Dayton area chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME) is supporting career education at Centerville High School.
Jeff Salzman delivered a $10,000 donation on behalf of SME Chapter 18 toward the high school’s purchase of a Haas CNC machine, which will be installed this summer. CNC, or Computer Numerical Control, machines are tools that cut material as programmed on the controller to create items out of plastics, metals, aluminum, wood and many other hard materials.
Salzman and Adam Gehret, who are both members of SME Chapter 18, recently visited the engineering and manufacturing lab space at CHS to better understand what students are learning and how those skills will transfer into the workforce.
“The Society of Manufacturing Engineers brings together manufacturing professionals and students to connect, learn, support and engage with each other,” said Salzman. “One of our core missions is furthering the manufacturing engineering vocation and manufacturing in general.”
Craig Suttman, career education principal at CHS, welcomes the support from local business leaders.
“We are very fortunate to have leaders from a variety of businesses and industries ready and willing to invest in our students, whether that’s by serving on the advisory board for one of our career education programs, hosting students for an apprenticeship or internship, or making a donation to help us expand program offerings,” Suttman said. “All of these contributions assist us in providing experiences for students to help prepare them for life after high school.”
