FAIRBORN — The Fairborn school district has a new assistant superintendent.

The Fairborn City Schools board of education Thursday night approved that new title for Amy Gayheart, who has been the district’s classified personnel/educational services director.

The change is a conversion with more responsibilities and an administrative position will not be added, Fairborn schools said in a release.

Gayheart has worked in Fairborn schools for more than 20 years and served as acting superintendent while Superintendent Gene Lolli took a leave of absence earlier this year due to surgery for kidney cancer.

The Wright State University graduate “has the knowledge and experience to continue to move the district forward,” Lolli said in the release. “She will be a strong asset in all of the areas she will be working with.”

The school board approved a four-year contract with an annual salary of $136,536 starting this month for Gayheart. She will be responsible for overseeing three central office departments and three supervisors, district records show.

Those reporting directly to the assistant superintendent will be the directors of: certified human resources and student services; curriculum and instruction; and business operations and facilities and construction, according to documents.

The job will also oversee supervisors of maintenance, transportation and food service, records show.

“She will supervise building rentals and facilities and assist the superintendent in all areas of the educational enterprise,” according to the district.

Gayheart was a teacher for 16 years and has been an administrator for 10 years, including two years as Fairborn High School principal before moving to the central office, the district said.

“We are proud of Amy’s dedication to Fairborn City Schools and want to continue to provide leadership opportunities to support the district moving forward,” board President Jerry Browning said in the district’s release.

Gayheart has been responsible for: facility use, classified personnel, food service, workers compensation, transportation and the Fairborn Digital Academy, the district’s website states.
