- By David Jablonski Staff Writer

The Dayton Flyers will open the 2022-23 season on Nov. 7 at UD Arena against Lindenwood University, a program making the transition to NCAA Division I.

That was one of the bits of news revealed when UD released its complete 13-game nonconference schedule Wednesday. Most of the 13 games had already been announced or leaked by various reporters.

Lindenwood, a new member of the Ohio Valley Conference, won’t become a full-fledged Division I program until the 202627 season. It previously competed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in NCAA Division II. The school is located in St. Charles, Mo.

The Lions finished 12-17 last season. They opened the season against two Division I opponents, losing 89-66 to Saint Louis and 85-40 to Northwestern.

The other news in the schedule release is:

Dayton will play Division III Capital University, coached by former Flyer Damon Goodwin, in an exhibition game on Oct.

29. Dayton beat Capital 89-71 in an exhibition game before the 2018-19 season.

■ Dayton will play Southeastern Louisiana, which finished 19-15 last season, on Dec. 3 at UD Arena. It ranked 259th in the NCAA Evaluation Tool. Dayton has never played Southeastern Louisiana.

■ Dayton will play UNC Asheville on Dec. 10 at UD Arena. Dayton is 10-0 against the Big South Conference but has never played Asheville.

Asheville finished 17-15 last season and 8-8 in the South Division of the Big South. It ranked 217th in the NET. It returns four of its top five scorers.

■ Dayton’s final nonconference game will take place Dec. 20 when it plays Alcorn State at UD Arena. Alcorn was 17-17 last

season and ranked 262nd in the NET. This will be the second matchup between the programs. Dayton beat Alcorn 94-69 on Feb. 7, 1981.

Dayton’s 18-game Atlantic 10 Conference schedule will be announced at a later date as will times of most of the nonconference games.
