Miami Valley CTC adds Pre-Law and Legal Studies program
The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) is proud to announce the launch of its groundbreaking Pre-Law and Legal Studies program. This unique class for high school juniors and seniors is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the legal system, courtroom procedures, and essential skills needed for a successful career in law.
Instructing the program, lawyer Jessica Savage brings a wealth of real-world legal experience to the classroom. Students will learn about representing clients in criminal and civil litigation and other legal proceedings with her guidance.
One of the standout features of the Pre-Law & Legal Studies program is its state-of-the-art classroom, which is designed to resemble a courtroom. This unique setting allows students to immerse themselves in the legal environment, providing a hands-on experience that goes beyond traditional classroom learning.
The program also offers weekly mock trials, where students can apply their knowledge in a simulated courtroom setting. Additionally, collaboration with the Criminal Justice program allows students from both programs to gain a deeper understanding of the Ohio Revised Code through joint activities and discussions.
The program allows students to earn Microsoft Office Specialist certifications in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Access. This additional certification enhances students’ technical skills, making them well-rounded professionals in the legal workforce.
“It’s wonderful that these students get the opportunity to learn about the law and consider a future career in the legal profession while still in high school,” Savage said. “The Pre-Law & Legal Studies program is designed to help them explore their interests and develop professional skills that will apply to any career.”
