Schools showing ‘Screenagers’ film
Centerville City Schools and the nonprofit Centerville Safe present a free screening of the film “Screenagers: Under the Influence” at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Cline Elementary Auditorium. Students are encouraged to attend with a parent or caregiver.
“We are pleased to offer the second installment of the Screenagers trilogy, which focuses on substance use,” said Emily Denlinger, president of Centerville Safe. “We’re bringing together an excellent expert panel to discuss what they are seeing in our community and how our children are being affected. We will also be providing adult and student handouts to take home to continue the discussion with your child(ren).”
“Screenagers: Under the Influence” delves into how the tech revolution has reshaped adolescence and its effects on substance use. The film debunks myths and depicts strategies parents and schools can use to encourage healthy decision-making, support teen mental health, set limits, and create healthy home environments.
A panel discussion about educating teens about vaping, drugs, and alcohol, as well as the impact of technology on those decisions, will take place after the film screening. Panelists will include Deputies Grafton Bowersox and Gary Fulwiler, school resource officers from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office; Stephanie McMillen, a health teacher at Centerville High School; Arleen Petty, a school counselor at Watts Middle School; Anita Kitchen, executive director of Families of Addicts; and local pediatrician Dr. David Roer.
