Office helps woman solve problem with her SNAP benefits

- The Ombudsman Office

The Ombudsman Office received a complaint from a woman regarding her Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits through the Montgomery County Department of Job and Family Services. She stated that she had not received her SNAP benefits for months. She went to the Job Center to scan documents before their due date and requested a call from her caseworker. She has not heard anything nor has the paperwork been processed. She asked the Ombudsman Office to investigate.

The Ombudsman Office contacted Job and Family Services after receiving the complaint. The caller contacted the Ombudsman about a week later complaining that her benefits were still not resumed, nor had she received her requested call. The Ombudsman Office contacted Job and Family Services again.

Job and Family Services contacted the Ombudsman Office back to report that the woman’s SNAP benefits were approved, and a caseworker attempted to reach her by phone. The woman reported to the Ombudsman that no caseworker had called her. She also indicated that the amount given to her was incorrect and there was an incorrect employment listing on her client portal.

The Ombudsman Office again contacted Job and Family Services and provided the correct information supplied by the caller. Job and Family Services then responded that the woman’s SNAP benefits were increased to the correct amount and the erroneous employment listing was corrected. They also stated that all the missing benefits would be on the card as well. The Ombudsman Office informed the woman that her benefits and record had been corrected.
