Stebbins senior embraces role as honorary Treasurer for the Day
Montgomery County Treasurer John McManus welcomed Damien McCormick, a senior at Stebbins High School, to participate in the “Honorary Treasurer for the Day” program, offering him an opportunity to gain a comprehensive understanding of government operations and public finance.
This program, designed for high school seniors from Montgomery County public high schools, aims to inspire young leaders and promote civic engagement while providing them with hands-on experience in the Treasurer’s Office.
The day started with a ceremonial swearing-in and receiving the official Treasurer’s seal pin. One of the highlights of McCormick’s day was attending the Montgomery County Office of Re-Entry graduation ceremony, where nearly 20 citizens returning from incarceration graduated and received recognition from county elected officials, alongside their families. McManus teaches a monthly tax class in the program.
After the graduation ceremony, McCormick shadowed members of the Treasurer’s staff in the cash management office, gaining insights into the intricacies of property tax processes and financial management within the county.
In addition to his experiences within the Treasurer’s Office, McCormick ventured into the community, engaging at a luncheon hosted by McManus. Joined by Dayton muralist Atalie Gagnet, McCormick learned about her impactful work and upcoming projects in the Greater Dayton community.
McCormick also met with Mason Hutton, the executive director of the Huber Heights Chamber of Commerce, to discuss potential partnership events and outreach initiatives with the Treasurer’s Office.
