So many amazing things to celebrate in our district

-

West Carrollton students are already weeks into the fourth quarter of school and are continuing to work hard as they approach the end of the school year. May 30 is the last day of school for students and graduation day for the Class of 2024.

Every year, I am amazed at the accomplishments of the Senior class in academics, athletics, the arts and good citizenship. One thing I also note is that the students who have achieved the most have had strong family support throughout their education. Attending back to school nights, parent teacher conferences and school events are important for parents to know what is happening in the school district, as well as provide a road map for student success.

As we celebrate the Class of 2024 and all our West Carrollton students, I also want to celebrate all the families who have shown their support. We only have students for a limited time during the day and during the year and family support is invaluable for every child and an important part of every child’s success.

I want to recognize two students who have achieved success that will be taking them to the National Competition for the Business Professionals of America (BPA) in Chicago in May. Following their qualification at the state competition, Sophomore Koen Hicswa, will be competing in C++ Programing and Junior Kaylah Graham, will be competing in Advanced Interview Skills. Other BPA students to be recognized are Lucy Byrd, who qualified for the state competition in Advanced Desktop Publishing and Maddie Miller, Kassidy Carter and Kristen Barnett, who each earned a State Torch Award. BPA in West Carrollton is a club activity, and students work on business skills after school hours. The group also volunteers throughout the year at different events including the Special Olympics.

The first full week in May is when we will be celebrating Employee Appreciation Week. We show appreciation for all our teachers and support staff. I encourage everyone to be part of the celebration no matter where you reside! If you know a teacher or someone who works or coaches in a school district, please take a moment to thank them or give them a smile and a wave. A simple act of appreciation and kindness to the people who educate, and support students will remind them of why they chose to be part of a school district.

West Carrollton is also celebrating the beginning of Phase II of our two-part construction plan. West Carrollton Elementary School for grades two through four is slated to open at the beginning of the 20252026 school year and the Middle School/High School Campus at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year.

There is a lot to celebrate in the West Carrollton School District, and I appreciate the support of our entire Pirate community!
