Dayton Christian awarded Purple Star
The Ohio Dept. of Education and Workforce has selected Dayton Christian School as a Purple Star School, a designation given to K-12 schools who have a proven level of commitment to serving military-connected students and families.
Dayton Christian is the only private school in Greater Dayton that has received this designation. More than 170 schools in Ohio were named to the Purple Star Class of 2024, of which only eight were private schools.
The school’s community — which is made up of more than 1,000 students and 160 faculty and staff – announced the designation while celebrating Purple Up! Day, which shows support to military families for their strength and sacrifice by wearing purple.
Dayton Christian is honored to serve many students and employees with family members in the military and achieving the Purple Star designation has been a priority for more than a year. The school has always supported military-connected students, but the process to become designated created a greater depth to its efforts, said Matt Baker, M.Ed., Head of School.
The school is in the process of forming a Purple Star Advisory Committee. This committee will develop ways to better support the social/emotional wellness and academic success of students including tutoring, services for students with special needs, counseling and career development. It is already working with the Air Force School Liaison Program to tap into more of these resources.
Montgomery County’s Spring Job Fair will be held at the University of Dayton Arena from noon-4 p.m. Thursday.
More than 150 employers representing a wide variety of fields are expected to attend. Many of them will be hiring on the spot. Workforce professionals will also be on hand to help people refine and copy their resumes and make connections.
This is one of two large job fairs the county holds each year, so if you are unemployed or underemployed you will want to take advantage of this opportunity. Job seekers can still save time by registering at thejobcenter.org, but it is not necessary.
