Police cadets take first place at Ohio competition

-

The Centerville Police Department’s Public Safety Cadets won first place at the 2024 Heart of Ohio Law Enforcement Explorer Competition. This annual event brings together young people representing police agencies from across Ohio for a day’s worth of competitive scenarios.

Cadets are assessed on their ability to analyze and resolve common situations faced by law enforcement and their performance is evaluated by experienced law enforcement professionals.

This year, the Centerville cadets earned the gold medal as the overall state champions beating about 40 other teams from 25 police agencies. They also placed in the Top 3 of several individual scenarios, including first place in crime scene investigation. One of the CPD cadets, Kaylee Moreland, was singled out for excellence and was recognized as the 2023 Youth of the Year.

This outstanding performance represents a year of hard work and preparation by these exceptional young people and the Centerville Police Department Public Safety Cadet advisors.

The Centerville Police Department Public Safety Cadets are made up of young people ranging from ages 14-21 and the program is open to anyone who may be interested. Meetings are held at the Centerville Police Department on Thursday evenings twice a month.

Anyone who may be interested in joining or who may want more information is encouraged to contact Sergeant Parker at 937-433-7661.
