NORWELL OUTHITS BELLMONT

- STAFF REPORT

Bellmont dropped their fifth successive game Wednesday against Norwell, falling behind 6-0 before they ever came to bat and losing 13-9.

The first time through the order, eight of the nine Norwell batters reached to give the Knights a 6-0 lead against Taylor Bauer, who was hit for 13 runs in her five innings of work.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Braves put together their best rally of the season. It began when Piper Baker was hit by a pitch out of the hand of Sami Lemler. Aaliyah Faurote followed with a single to center and Emma Mills executed a great bunt to load the bases for Bauer. Bauer and Jill Wemhoff both picked up base hits and Bellmont picked up three more runs with runproducing ground balls.

Norwell put the game away in the sixth with four hits and a sacrifice fly for a 13-6 lead.

Bellmont did score three more runs when Emily Bleke, Paige Busick and Rachel Bleke all got hits off Norwell reliever Maddy Sonnigsen, but neither team scored in the seventh.

Rachel Bleke got the last five outs in relief of Bauer, allowing two hits and no runs.

Norwell and Bellmont could meet again in the sectional. The draw from the IHSAA is Sunday.
